 There are three types, the oriental, German and American, the latter one being able to fly.
The oriental cockroach generally lives in moist areas and is up to 25mm in length, and is usually dark brown or black in colour. It has long antennae and can climb rough and smooth surfaces.
The German cockroach is about 17mm in length and is a yellowish brown colour, and has dark stripes round the body and head. It has long whip like segmented antennae.
The American cockroach is approximately 30mm long, is reddish brown and can be found in any part of the home. Egg to adulthood takes about 5-10 months depending on temperature and food supply.
Cockroaches can spread disease by infecting our food, but can be effectively eradicated by powders, gels, sprays and good hygiene.
