Moles grow up to 16cm in length nose to tail and have a velvety dark brown fur.
Moles dig tunnels and chambers underground throwing out the soil creating molehills. They live mainly solitary lives apart from the spring breeding season. They eat mostly earthworms and invertebrates that fall into their tunnels.
Moles live no more than 3 years, the female rearing a litter of up to 7, and may breed twice yearly. Young are fully grown at 10 weeks old.
Control of moles, is done by using a variety of barrel and scissor traps, or gassing with aluminium phosphide by professional users only.
